Medical Issue Symptoms of Auto Accident Injury

Neck, shoulder and back pain are the universal symptoms of auto accident injury. Symptoms can appear immediate after the accident or delayed for days and weeks. Many patients complain additional symptoms on the course of therapies. Those new symptoms can appear when your body structure has changed due to the compensation mechanism of your body to avoid painful position. It is not rare to experience psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety after the trauma. Sleep disturbance, financial problems, and chronic pain can cause those psychological symptoms.

Hit from behind? Most common injuries we see here are from rear end collision. The rear end collision can cause significant injury to the victim. Quick jerking movement of your neck (Whiplash) can cause serious damages to the ligaments, discs and muscles around cervical spine and shoulder, which would not be revealed in X- ray since they are soft tissues. Most rear ended motor vehicle accident happened without any notice, which is why you are so vulnerable to the injury. Earlier intervention is the utmost importance to manage the injuries as well as reduce the speed of future degenerative arthritis in your spine.

If there is no fracture or dislocation of the bone, then the injuries are called soft tissue injuries. X ray results are usually unremarkable but you are complaining neck and back pain. Most motor vehicle accident injuries are soft tissue injuries but there are not many expert doctors who understand the nature of these injuries. You should be aware if any doctors, acupuncturists or any health care practitioners who advertise that they treat motor vehicle accident injuries without proper education of motor vehicle accident. Without proper rehab therapy to the injured soft tissues, the injured may develop chronic pain syndrome.

Minor car damage cannot be related to your bodily damage. Most cars today are designed to minimize car damages with specially designed bumper but that ironically can increase bodily damages to the occupants inside.

Major injuries are those ones with fractures and dislocated joints and brain damages. Many cases patients with these problems stay in Hospital and have surgeries. There are still necessitated rehabilitation therapies which many take 3 to 5 months to finish. We do rehab for this kind of patients after surgery in this clinic.

Most X -Ray after rear ended car accident injuries shows negative to fractured bones or dislocated joints. X ray is harmful to your body anyway, so why do you need that? If we highly suspect a possible fracture after pertinent initial examination, of course we will send you to take X ray at nearby radiology group. Our clinic has an EMG diagnostic equipment to detect soft tissue damages in your muscles that more likely to get by any car accident.

Automobile Accident
Injury mechanism of automobile accident is extremely complex. Not many doctors fully understand it. We have treated thousands of motor vehicle accident patients since year 2004. It is very important to select a right doctor when you have motor vehicle accident.

At the moment of impact in a typical rear-end collision; your head remains momentarily still while your body is forced forward. This instantaneous separation of the movement of your torso and head causes the neck shape to be deformed injuring muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs, joint surfaces, nerves and even your brain. This all occurs before you are even conscious of the collision. By the time you realized you were hit, your spine as already been damaged! The degree of spine damage depends on many factors including your age, gender, body type, vehicle type, seat and head restraint type, your position at impact, previous accidents, and more. Interestingly, vehicle damage has been repeatedly shown NOT to be a good predictor of bodily injury. One of the most reliable factors of injury are your symptoms and how soon after the collision they show up and your x-ray findings. Much research has gone into determining the long-term outlook of crash victims and how to predict whether you will recover from your injuries or not. The presence of an abnormal neck curve on x-rays after a collision is a key factor in your prognosis. Medical researchers have found that if your neck is damaged it will change its shape which is readily measurable on x-ray examination. How far from normal your neck curve has deviated determines how badly you are injured and how difficult it may be to return your neck to normal.

"What is a Normal Neck Curve?"
A normal neck has a "C" shaped curve that measures between 30 and 40 degrees. There is some debate about whether or not the higher number, 40 is a steadfast norm. I believe, if you are between those numbers your neck is within normal specs. A classic example of what is called a "hypolordosis" or decreased curve of the neck is when a neck appears straight or sometimes curves the wrong direction on x-ray after an accident. What you need to understand is that after your initial treatment that is designed to reduce pain by quelling inflammation and spasm, it is highly probable that your neck will still be misshaped like this. Worse, is that later you will suffer deterioration of your neck joints and have early osteoarthritis. Medical research indicates a 600% increase in risk for early arthritis in victims with persistently reduced neck curve after a crash. As you can see, it is very important for your long-term health to correct your neck as much as possible. Right about now, you're probably thinking...

"How Do I get My Neck Back to Normal?"
We will assume for the sake of simplicity that you have concluded your Initial Relief Care treatment in our offices. This treatment has probably taken you anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. Your pain now should be about 70% better than when you were first injured. It is now time for the second phase of care, which is called Spinal Rehabilitation care. The two parts to Spinal Rehabilitation Care are: - In office visits at roughly twice each week for approximately 4-12 weeks. At home care daily, 7 days a week until curve returns to normal. You’re in office visits will consist of: various forms of cervical (neck) traction that depends on how severe your loss of curve is to mold your neck into the proper curvature. Isoelectronic muscle rehabilitation also known as Russian Stimulation, to increase muscle strength in the back or your neck and shoulders. Myofascial release (stretching, deep muscle massage, etc) to remove muscle tension Chiropractic spinal adjustments to maintain proper joint alignment and freedom of movement to allow your neck to be curved.

Untreated injuries may not heal optimally. If you have injuries from an auto accident, a thorough chiropractic exam to determine if you are a candidate for chiropractic care is important.

Untreated injuries can lead to chronic problems:
If left untreated, injuries from auto accidents can lead to chronic problems like headaches, neck pain, numbness and tingling, dizziness, insomnia, low back pain, sciatica and a whole host of other problems. Once chronic, these physical problems become very difficult to treat—sometimes necessitating surgery. Fortunately, there is a solution—safe, natural chiropractic care.
